Fixed Network Capacity Planning Scope
Role Summary
The Fixed Network Capacity Planning Expert is responsible for end-to-end forecasting, dimensioning, optimization, and strategic expansion planning across multi-vendor fixed networks covering transport, aggregation, and access layers. The role drives capacity readiness, service continuity, traffic growth management, and network scalability through data-driven planning and cross-functional technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Capacity Planning & Forecasting
- Lead long-term and short-term capacity forecasting based on traffic growth trends, business demand, and technology evolution.
- Drive capacity planning across Core, Aggregation, Access, IP/MPLS, and Transmission layers.
- Identify network bottlenecks, congestion risks, and capacity constraints with proactive augmentation strategies.
- Ensure alignment of network expansion plans with business growth, rollout strategy, and customer demand.
2. Network Utilization & Performance Management
- Govern utilization monitoring of network elements including links, ports, routers, and transport nodes.
- Define planning thresholds, trigger mechanisms, and escalation criteria for augmentation activities.
- Analyse KPIs including utilization, congestion, throughput, latency, and resiliency indicators.
- Drive periodic executive-level reporting, forecasting dashboards, and capacity reviews.
3. Network Optimization & Augmentation
- Lead capacity augmentation planning including fiber expansion, transmission upgrades, router scaling, and bandwidth expansion.
- Optimize network utilization and architecture to improve efficiency and delay unnecessary capex.
- Drive traffic engineering, redundancy planning, resiliency improvement, and load balancing strategies.
- Ensure efficient utilization of DWDM, MPLS, IP, and transport technologies across multi-vendor environments.
4. Demand & Strategic Requirement Planning
- Translate commercial forecasts, customer demand, and rollout plans into technical network capacity requirements.
- Lead requirement generation for network expansion, modernization, and strategic transformation initiatives.
- Coordinate with Access, Core, Transport, Deployment, and Operations teams for end-to-end demand fulfilment.
5. Cross-Functional & Vendor Management
- Collaborate with Planning, Operations, Deployment, Finance, and Program teams to drive network expansion initiatives.
- Engage with OEMs and vendors for capacity roadmap planning, solution optimization, and technology alignment.
- Provide technical leadership during expansion planning, rollout prioritization, and escalation handling.
6. Tools, Analytics & Automation
- Drive advanced utilization of OSS/NMS platforms, analytics tools, BI dashboards, and planning systems.
- Maintain governance of capacity databases, inventory accuracy, and forecasting models.
- Lead automation and data analytics initiatives to improve planning accuracy and operational efficiency.
7. Cost Optimization & Governance
- Drive capex and opex optimization through efficient forecasting and capacity utilization strategies.
- Ensure optimal investment planning while maintaining service quality and scalability targets.
- Support budget forecasting, business case preparation, and strategic investment planning.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in Fixed Network architecture including IP/MPLS, DWDM, Transport, and Fiber networks
- Advanced capacity planning, forecasting, and traffic modelling expertise
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning capabilities
- Expertise in network KPI analysis, utilization governance, and optimization strategies
- Knowledge of multi-vendor environments including Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Huawei, and equivalent technologies
- Proficiency in OSS/NMS platforms, Excel, SQL, BI, and analytics tools
- Strong stakeholder management, vendor coordination, and technical leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications / Electronics / IT / Engineering
- CCNP/CCIE or equivalent networking certification preferred
- Experience in large-scale multi-vendor telecom environments preferred
Experience
- 10–15 years of experience in Fixed Network Planning, Capacity Planning, IP/MPLS, or Transport Network domains with exposure to large-scale telecom networks.
